For decades, Fiestas de Santiago Apóstol in Loíza have been one of Loíza’s cultural highlights. Annually, thousands of Puerto Ricans gather in Loíza to commemorate the miraculous appearance of Saint James the Apostle in front of the famed (but fallen) cork tree in Las Carreras in Loíza. These festivities last around 10 days (last two weeks of July), during which people from all around the island come to Loíza to enjoy bomba, the local food, and the religious rites.
