The historic Salazar-Candal House was built in 1911, commissioned by Dr. Guillermo Salazar Palau. It was designed by architect Blas Silva Boucher. In its facade stand two architectural styles: the neoclassical and moorish. In the 1980’s, it was acquired by the Municipality of Ponce for the purpose of converting it into the Museum of the History of Ponce.It was inaugurated in 1992 to commemorate the three hundred years since the founding of Ponce as a city. The museum portrays the city’s ecology, history, economy, architecture, government, among other interesting things.
