Calle Loíza (Loíza Street)

San Juan, Puerto Rico

Calle Loíza is becoming San Juan’s trendy uptown

Calle Loíza, (not to be confused with Loíza Pueblo, a small town and municipality in the northeastern coast of Puerto Rico) is one 40 “sub-barrios” (neighborhoods) of Santurce. Although several structures of architectonic value and historical importance are located mainly throughout Calle Loíza, the community of Calle Loíza is characterized by colorful homes, with very good examples with front concrete verandahs. The concentration and quality of these residences characterize Calle Loíza as one of the best examples of vernacular “Santurce” architecture of intimate Caribbean influences. A wave of new gastronomy and cultural developments is sweeping across Calle Loíza, injecting renewed vibrancy into this well-known sector of San Juan and highlighting once again the area’s resilience. Calle Loíza is becoming San Juan’s trendy uptown.
