For many years, it was said that the geographic center of Puerto Rico was located on the 2nd step of downtown’s catholic church. However, on July 31st 2002, per a petition by the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture and the municipality of Orocovis, Mayagüez’ precinct of the University of Puerto Rico set to define the location of the center of Puerto Rico.
In this study it was determined that the geographic center was located very far from where it was originally believed. The site it located in the barrio of Pellejas of Orocovis on the side of the road. There’s a sign indicating the location and a few feet behind a red bar indicating the exact point.
